In the heart of the Haut-Jura wildlife park, the winter mist in the morning gives a ghostly atmosphere to the lake. The Ain River crosses the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté. At an altitude of 2235 feet, it originates in the town of Conte and flows into the Rhône. This river is 118 miles long. Numerous works have been built by man on this river and its tributaries to produce electricity. The Vouglans dam formed a lake of the same name just upstream. This dam was built in 1968.
