The Mèdes battery

0
The Mèdes battery is located at the eastern end of Porquerolles Island, opposite the bay of Hyères, about an hour's walk from the village after the beach of Notre-Dame. Long used by the navy for artillery trials, it overlooks the Mèdes rocks and offers a privileged view of the Alycastre bay and point. The battery's location takes advantage of the site's topography, which protects it on the west side by an impressive rocky ridge. Listed as a Historical Monument since 1989 and owned by the Coastal Protection Agency since 2012, the Mèdes battery is only open to the public during the European Heritage Days.
