This is the oldest French locomotive on display at the Cité du Train-Patrimoine SNCF in Mulhouse. It was designed by the English engineer William Barber Buddicom who gave it its name. Nearly 400 Buddicom were built in France, near Rouen and Bordeaux. Named “Saint-Pierre”, the 111 Buddicom no.33 operated on the Paris-Dieppe express line. Its power, enormous for its time, enabled it to pull trains weighing 80 tons at a speed of 37 mph (60 km/h). Built in 1844 in Petit-Quevilly near Rouen, it was withdrawn from the tracks in 1910.
