The union of the mallet and the awl
2
0
In the lodge of the stonemasons of the Guédelon construction site, this worker is cutting a block of limestone with a mallet and an awl. With its flat end, the awl allows roughing out hard stones for moldings or carvings. Its shape and its small size make it possible to intervene in places inaccessible to the pick. The mallet, on the other hand, is a thrown percussion tool made up of an iron head of variable weight and a wooden handle and used to strike the stonemason's awl.
