La Trinité is one of the three sub-prefectures of Martinique and the main administrative center of the North Atlantic area of the island. Home to 12,025 inhabitants, the municipality extends over 11,310 acres (4,577 ha) from sea level to 935 ft (285 m) high. It notably includes the fishing village of Tartane and the Caravelle peninsula as well as one of Martinique's three pre-Columbian petroglyph sites in the Galion plain. The port of La Trinité experienced significant development for the rum and sugar trade at the time of the powerful Dubuc family.
