The high gate with drawbridge

From 1291, Riquewihr was endowed with two rows of rectangular ramparts with the watchtower (Dolder), the Thieves Tower and the Obertor. Its protection against artillery fire became necessary. The location where the drawbridge was built is still visible. There is also the oldest harrow in Europe, all made of wood. It was built a few years before that of the Tower of London. Between the beams of the drawbridge is the coat of arms of the Counts of Württemberg (1615).
