The Obertor and the Dolder

In 1291, the town of Riquewihr acquired two rows of rectangular ramparts. They each had their own gate: the High Gate Tower (Dolder) and the Obertor. The location where the Dolder's drawbridge was built is still visible today. Riquewihr's ramparts also included the oldest wooden harrow in Europe, installed a few years before that of the Tower of London. Between the beams of the drawbridge, the coat of arms of the Counts of Württemberg announced Riquewihr's masters.
