Considered one of the sixty most beautiful sites in France, 'L'île d'Or' and its Saracen tower are one of the most photographed places on the Mediterranean coast. It appears on many postcards from the beginning of the 20th century even before the construction of its tower in 1909. It is also reminiscent of the forbidden island of 'The black island' (1937), the 7th album of the adventures of Tintin in which Tintin confronts Doctor Müller and a gorilla named Ranko. Strange coincidence : when you arrive by the sea from the east, you would swear to see a gorilla appear in the rocks of 'L'île d'Or' !
