The wood and forest areas of Corsica represent 249677sqmi (401 817km2) or 46% of the area of ​​the island. This makes Corsica the most wooded of the Mediterranean islands. Softwood species (fir trees, laricio pines, maritime pines...) occupy more than half of the productive area and are the main recoverable resource for timber. The other most widely represented species are beech, oak (green, cork, white), alder and chestnut trees.
