The Kanak man, his land and his name
2
0
The Kanak society is patriarchal and founded on the perpetuation of the male lineage and clans. Each child receives the name and the land from his patriarchal filiation. The name is defined in the genealogical discourse of the clan, in the myth and in the toponymy of the land of origin. It is passed down from generation to generation. The first name returns cyclically among the members of the clan so that the spirit of the ancestor accompanies the newborn and gives him part of his aura.
