The changing history of an abbey

Notre-Dame de Boscodon Abbey was founded in 1142 in the locality of Crots, near Serre-Ponçon Lake in the Hautes-Alpes department, by hermit monks of the Monastic Order of Chalais thanks to donations from Guillaume of Montmirail. In 1303, it became Benedictine when the Order of Chalais came under the control of the Chartreuse. Attached to the Archbishopric of Embrun in the 18th century, Notre-Dame de Boscodon was transformed into a national property during the French Revolution. The abbey was returned to worship and restored by Dominican monks in the 20th century.
