A legacy of the glaciers
0
0
The Vosges are distinguished from the other massifs of medium mountains by a rougher atmosphere and numerous traces of quaternary freezing. The legacies of glacier work are visible throughout the massif. The lac Blanc (White lake) is an altitude lake located in the town of Orbey. Its shape is due to glacial erosion, just as pits, rock locks, and eroded rocks. These cirques fit into the context of the Alsatian side of the Vosges. Their plinths are made of granite and gneiss and formed by ground uprisings.
