Ocher is a fine natural material found in clays and the soil in the form of sediments known as ocher sands. It used to be extracted thanks to its separation from the impurities and the sand - which represent 80 to 90% of the sediments - by levigation or washing with running water until the 1960s. At that time, this technique was replaced by high-pressure propulsion.
