Long fibers make up 15 to 25% of the flax plant. After the scutching process, they are combed until ready for weaving and bleached if necessary. The scutched tow is first combed with ever finer combs to eliminate all the small pieces of remaining straw and separate the fibers between them. The combing process allows obtaining disentangled, almost silky fibers that seem like hair.
