Marseille North motorway is the first section of the A7 motorway, one of the busiest in France, built in parallel with the National Road 7 and sometimes sharing its course. The ministerial decision to build a north Marseille clearing motorway with two branches on Les Pennes-Mirabeau and Bouc-Bel-Air was taken in 1939. It was favored by the gap left between Plombières and Porte d'Aix by the American bombing of May 27, 1944. The area, declared unbuildable after the war, was recovered for the creation of a road axis inaugurated on November 6, 1950, between Saint-Antoine and Plombières.
