Appelé ainsi, cet arbre (Couroupita guianensis) a le tronc couvert de gros fruits ligneux d'une vingtaine de centimètres de diamètre. Il est originaire d'Amérique du Sud et centrale. Il a été introduit par les Anglais en 1881 et est souvent planté dans les temples en Inde et au Sri Lanka. Celui-ci est aux Royal Botanic Gardens de Peradeniya, près de Kandy.
