Built by the Caen architect Jacques-Claude Baumier in 1859, the Grand Hôtel of Houlgate was extended by two pavilions in 1896 and a rotunda (photo) in 1904. This building, partially listed as a Historical Monument since May 12, 2000, is one of the most remarkable buildings of the seaside heritage of the Normandy coast. Located along Rue Baumier, parallel to the sea, it is separated from the beach by a terraced garden with a casino below. The Grand Hôtel has been transformed into an apartment building and now bears the name of Les Pléiades residence.
