The most important crossroads of the city, Place de la Rotonde marks the end point of the Cours Mirabeau, the backbone of Aix-en-Provence, once dedicated to the circulation of coaches. Muddy and in poor condition until the 19th century, it has since then been fitted out and embellished by the creation, in its center, of a monumental fountain symbolizing the city.
