Kingfisher of Senegal sheltered in foliage
1
0
Medium-sized (9 inches i.e 23cm), the Kingfisher of Senegal has a blue plumage on the top and tail and a greyish-white one on the head and the underside. It is the only Kingfisher in East Africa to have a bicolour beak: the upper jaw is red while the lower mandible is black. It lives as well in wooded savannahs as on the edge of rivers or lakes. During the day, it remains motionless in the foliage, away from the sun, and becomes much more active and visible in rainy or overcast weather.
