Karst erosion of the Loyalty Islands
0
0
Ouvéa, like the other Loyalty Islands, has the particularity of being devoid of any surface hydrographic network. All the rainwater therefore enters the coral reef until it meets the laterally infiltrated seawater on which it forms a lens of freshwater of lower density. This circulation of the rainwater explains the significant karst erosion at the origin of the very vast network of cavities partially or totally occupied by fresh or marine waters.
