Jéhudit Pwidja, the art of being a Kanak
1
0
The Kanak 'chiefdom' or tribe is made up of several clans bringing together family households and individuals. The clans come from family lines with genealogical ramifications from a common ancestor. The social position of the individual within the clan is defined by his birthright. It is the eldest of the eldest branch who carries the word of the ancestors and passes it on to the subsequent generations. Designated as the 'chief', he is the central pole of the community and creates the link with the earth and the spirits.
