Large-flowered jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum) serves for the manufacture of the precious and rare absolute that enters the composition of the most prestigious perfumes. Some 8,000 flowers are necessary to produce a kilo (2.2 lbs), and about 1,763 lbs (800 kg) of fresh flowers are needed to obtain a kilo of concrete that would give 1.3 lbs (600 g) of jasmine absolute after transformation. The baskets of jasmine flowers fill up slowly, flower after flower, at the rate of 0.7 lb (350 g) of flowers per hour. Such rhythm represents a harvest of 4.4 lbs (2 kg) per morning of work.
