Jaguar on the lookout
5
0
Today the only representative of the genus Panthera and the largest predatory mammal in the American intertropical zone, the jaguar (Panthera onca) lives alone on a territory corresponding to its vital area which varies from 15.5 to 23.6sqmi (25 to 38km2) for females and up to the double for males. Hunter and fisher, it is always on the lookout to surprise random preys or to wait, ambushed, for the passage of usual ones. Its diet ranges from ungulates (tapirs, peccaries, small deers) to large rodents (capybara, paca, agouti), including armadillos, caimans, turtles and fish.
