Very good swimmer, the jaguar sometimes hunts along watercourses, taking prey such as caimans, turtles, and fish. It discreetly approaches its prey from behind, then leaps on their back and kills them with a bite to the head. Its sharp teeth allow it to pierce the thick skin of crocodiles and the carapace of turtles.
