Islands relatively distant from the coast

The Hyères islands are distinguished from the other islands of the Provençal and Riviera coastlines by their relative geographic isolation and distance from the coast. While the majority of the other islands are less than 1,640 ft (500 m) from the shore or a larger island, Port-Cros is located 5,2 miles (8.5 km) from the coast and Le Levant island at 5.6 miles (9.1 km). Porquerolles, meanwhile, is only 1.6 miles (2.6 km) from the southern end of the Giens Peninsula, but it extends nearly 6.2 miles (10 km) from the island of Port-Cros.
