On January 17, 1991, 12 French Jaguar planes initiated the first phase of Operation Desert Storm by attacking the Iraqi base of Al Jaber in Kuwait. The French bombers were robust Franco-British twin-engine Sepecat Jaguar A that participated in nearly 600 missions led by some 50 pilots in Iraq. Among the planes of the first raid, four were hit but returned to base. That of Captain Hummel, hit in the engine and with a burning reactor, is on display at the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace (Air and Space Museum).
