In 2005 and 2006, small groups of Przewalski horses from various origins (Prague and Gramat zoos, Domaine du Villaret of the Takh Association) were introduced into the Monts d'Azur reserve in the Alpes-Maritimes department. Their establishment in a vast territory populated by other animals was laborious. The equids needed time to find their place and succeed in cohabiting, in particular, with the European bison.
