In herds, African elephants manage to learn and to transmit their knowledge thanks to the hierarchy and the mix of generations. The group moves on regular routes, under the guidance of an elder experienced female, who has already faced drought. She knows the location of the water points, learnt from her own mother, and passes on the knowledge to other generations.
