Inspired by northern hospitals
0
0
Nicolas Rolin, the founder of the Hospices de Beaune, was architecturally inspired by the magnificence of the northern hospitals, in particular the Saint-Jean hospice of Valenciennes, the Notre-Dame hospital of Fontenilles, and the Biloke in Ghent. A joint work of the most prestigious artists of Flanders and from the heart of Burgundy, his hospices are distinguished from them by the many Flemish architectural contributions. The Hospices de Beaune also stands out with a rational design characterized by the presence of four wings arranged around a central courtyard.
