The Champagne-Ardenne region extends between the Paris Basin and the East of France and stretches over 217 mi (350 km). It is an agricultural and wine-growing territory. Since the 1980s, solutions to protect the environment have been implemented through the transition of Champagne towards ecological viticulture. In 2015, the region's vineyard was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the entry Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne (Hills, Houses, and Cellars of Champagne). This protection covers 320 municipalities of the Champagne AOC (Designation of Controlled Origin) area.
