Though unexploited, a few silver veins are still visible today inside the galleries of Tellure mining park. The silver mine of Saint-Jean Engelsbourg was active from 1549 to 1907. The development of its vast underground network mostly took place at the end of the 15th and during the 16th century. Numerous miners from Saxony and Bohemia brought new, more intensive mining techniques. The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and geological hazards hampered exploitation until the end of the 18th century.
