The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Le Havre played a significant part in the construction of the Pont de Normandie. It succeeded in convincing the elected officials, the industrialists, and the State that a second bridge was essential after that of Tancarville, which no longer corresponded to road traffic. From 1972, it fought to improve the service to Lower Normandy, Brittany, and indirectly southwestern France and Spain. The Pont de Normandie was inaugurated in 1995.
