Polynesian influence

The Kanak women, who wore short hair when the first Europeans arrived, borrowed their hair length and floral ornaments from the Polynesians who represent the third ethnic group in New-Caledonia. They come mainly from Wallis and Futuna which have fewer inhabitants than the economic immigrants on the 'Caillou' (Stone). As for the Polynesians of Tahiti, they are often employed in tourism and have preserved their dance and costumes tradition.
