The Old Port and Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde are probably the two most emblematic sites in Marseille. The Old Port is the prestigious scene for the history of the city through all the ages, from the Greek and Roman colonies of Massilia to the medieval city of Marsiho. Even recently, in 2013, it was renovated and refurbished to keep representing, always under the gaze of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, the nerve center of the city designated as the European Capital of Culture.
