Increasing the genetic variability

Three-quarters of the fifty or so European bison (Bison bonasus Linnaeus, 1758) of the Monts d'Azur Reserve were born on its premises. The site aims at creating a bison population independent of those of Poland and Belarus to increase the genetic variability of the species and ensure its survival. Since 2008, more than 60 births have taken place in the reserve, and 22 young bison have been transferred to other sites in Europe.
