Eliminated in France between the 17th and 19th centuries, lynxes were reintroduced in 1983 in the Vosges. They also returned naturally to the Jura and the Alps from Switzerland. In 2017, their total number was estimated at more or less one hundred and fifty adult individuals, of which about 120 lived in the Jura massif where their population is the most dynamic. They are found in particular in the high altitude forests of Massacre and Risoux.
