'Impasse du Meneau' in the heart of the medieval city
0
0
The maze of narrow, cobbled streets in the historic centre of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise immediately transport visitors back to medieval times, as is the case with this ‘Impasse du Meneau’ (Mullion cul-de-sac), which starts from the Rue des Consuls. In architecture, mullions are the fixed posts that divide a window, possibly cut by one or more crosspieces. Mostly made of stone, mullioned windows appeared at the end of the Middle Ages and gained in popularity during Renaissance.
