The emblematic image of Agats remains the elevated constructions on stilts and the more or less stable wooden walkways which allow the city to resist the high tides invading the plain in which it is established. The wooden roads on which more and more electric scooters circulate have recently begun to be replaced by concrete and the number of constructions has exploded to shelter the governmental installations and the migrants from Bugis and Moluccas.
