Located 56mi (90km) northwest, Rapa is the closest island to the Marotiri islets. A more than 4921ft (1500m) deep ocean separates them. The 4 islets, distant from each other from 1 to 2mi (1.5 to 3km), cover an area of ​​4.31ha with particularly rich waters. Their very steep slopes making them unsuitable for vegetation despite their temperate humid climate, they only attract fishermen and seabirds to which they offer a nesting place.
