Amédée islet and lighthouse
1
0
The Amédée islet is a 1,312ft (400m) long coral islet located near the Boulari pass - one of the three Nouméan passes between the lagoon and the ocean - about 12.4mi (20km) and 40mn by boat south of the capital. Built in Paris, its 183ft (56m) high lighthouse was installed and put into service in 1865 in order to ensure the safety of the ships which transported convicts to New Caledonia between 1864 and 1898.
