To the south-east of Bonifacio, about 200 hectares of islets and granitic reefs dot the clearest waters of Corsica. Eight main islands make the Lavezzi granitic archipelago, including the islands of Lavezzo, Cavallo, Ratino, and Piana. The island of Cavallo (on the short), the largest and the only one inhabited, is 2.3 km (1.4 mi) from the coast.
