On the left, the famous restaurant La Fournaise: in the 1860s, the Fournaise house flourished there. The fashion of canoeing attracts many Parisians, especially artists like Guy de Maupassant or Gustave Caillebotte. Painters often represent these landscapes on the banks of the Seine. Auguste Renoir, a regular at Maison Fournaise, will direct Les Canotiers à Chatou, or Le Déjeuner des Rameurs.
