Identification of the green sea turtle

The green sea turtle is identifiable with its brownish, greyish or greenish, more or less dark, heart-shaped and strongly convex carapace. The dorsal part of its carapace consists of juxtaposed scales surrounded by yellow on the sutures. Its head, marked with 2 prefrontal scales, is small and non-retractable. It has a short, rounded snout and small serrations on the edge of the lower jaw.
