The large soap cubes emblematic of Savon de Marseille were traditionally nicknamed buttercup, parrot, or pure fir tree. Cut to identical dimensions, they were affixed a mark by stamping and dried on racks where they improved over time. Relegated to oblivion with the advent of washing machines, powders, and enzymes, they have regained their reputation thanks to the ecological wave that highlights their many softening, detergent, purifying, hypoallergenic and biodegradable virtues.
