The Upper-Rhine department occupies the southern part of Alsace. It is mostly located in the Alsatian plain. Riquewihr is a wine-growing village located in the heart of the Alsace wine route. Nestled at the entrance of a wooded valley, it is protected against the northerly winds by the Schoenenbourg. The locality overlooks the Alsatian plain and offers a panorama on the Rhine valley, from the Alps to Sélestat.
