The Upper-Rhine department occupies the southern part of Alsace. It is mostly located in the Alsatian plain. As the mists become less persistent during winter, the region benefits from more sunshine, particularly favorable to the development of its vineyards. Riquewihr is a wine-growing village located in the heart of the Alsace wine route. Nestled at the entrance of a wooded valley, it is protected against the northerly winds by the Schoenenbourg. The locality overlooks the Alsatian plain and offers a panorama on the Rhine valley, from the Alps to Sélestat.
