Ice thickness and risks
0
0
It is essential to be aware of the thickness of the ice layer before venturing out on a frozen lake. It is particularly dangerous to walk on ice with a thickness less than or equal to 2.7 in (7 cm). The ice cover starts to be safe from 3.9 to 5.9 in (10 to 15 cm) thick, but even a thickness of 8.6-9.8 in (22-25 cm) is not a complete guarantee. Be that as it may, risks remain present, especially because of the currents that can continuously weaken the ice sheet and cause it to collapse at any time.
