L’Hyptis capitata est un arbuste de la famille des Lamiacées. Il est originaire d’Amérique centrale, des Antilles, d’Amérique du Sud-est, mais naturalisé dans certaines îles tropicales.
Les tiges ont une section carrée. Les feuilles vert clair sont disposées en paires opposées, très largement espacées le long de la tige, qui se termine en capitules sphériques composées de nombreuses fleurs blanches tubulaires.
