The Przewalski horses of the Monts d'Azur reserve in the Alpes-Maritimes department are divided into three distinct groups that share the territory. The great harem of about fifteen individuals occupies the best location near the large lake, while the five horses of the small harem (photo) remain in a wooded meadow to the west of the reserve. Finally, the group of single males travels in the higher parts of the Monts d'Azur reserve, regularly attempting forays into the territory of the great harem.
