The horizontal centrifuging of the crystal is carried out in a sitting position. The glassblower removes any impurities and distributes the material by rolling the parison into a hollow tool made of cherry wood. While blowing into the cane, he turns it in a continuous movement. Horizontal centrifuging enlarges the crystal bubble, while vertical centrifuging – done standing up – lengthens it. Each movement depends on the desired end result (decanter, vase, cup). The glassblower then uses a “mouillette” – folded and moistened newspaper – and tongs to shape the neck of the decanters.
