Honduras is one of the wettest regions on the planet with an annual average of almost 6.5ft (2m) of precipitations. If evapotranspiration and infiltration consume more than 60% of this hydrological contribution, the remaining supplies the country's water resources which amount to approximately 39,370sqft (12,000m3) of water per inhabitant which is theoretically sufficient. However, in recent years, the country has experienced several droughts threatening this balance.
